Technology Brief | Quadrise plc is a UK-listed company with world-leading expertise and technology for producing synthetic fuels for marine and industrial users using oil-in-water emulsion technology (trademarked as MSAR®). Quadrise have developed a new biofuel blend (bioMSAR™), that incorporates new renewable biofuels (both oil and water soluble) to reduce CO2 emissions at a lower cost than conventional transition biofuels. These stable synthetic emulsion fuels have enhanced combustion properties and lower emissions of NOx, PM and soot, due to the smaller fuel droplets and lower temperature combustion of the emulsions. Diesel engine efficiency is improved. MSAR® has been successfully used at commercial-scale in diesel engines (2-stroke and 4-stroke), boilers and oil-fired power plants for marine and industrial applications. bioMSAR™ has been tested in 4-stroke diesels and furnaces and is about to be tested and used commercially on a large container vessel (Wartsila Flex96 2-stoke engine). |
