Funding Explanation Swedish power-to-liquids (PtL) developer Liquid Wind AB has announced that it has been awarded a SEK 151 million (≈ EUR 14.78 million) investment grant from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's "Klimatklivet" (Climate Step) program for its FlagshipONE e-methanol production facility in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.
Partners Along with Övik Energi, partners include Alfa Laval, Carbon Clean, Haldor Topsoe, Siemens Energy, Uniper, and Worley. Denmark-headed energy utility major Ørsted A/S has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Swedish electro-fuels (eFuels) project developer Liquid Wind AB under which Ørsted will acquire a 45 percent ownership share of Liquid Wind AB’s FlagshipONE e-methanol project in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.
Technology Brief Liquid Wind’s FlagshipONE is Sweden’s first commercial-scale electro-fuel (eFuel) plant that will supply the market with 50 000 tonnes per annum of renewable and fossil-free e-methanol fuel for shipping. Using captured biogenic CO2 and green hydrogen produced using wind power, the plant will be built adjacent to Övik Energi’s biomass-fired Hörneborgsverket combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Örnsköldsvik. Along with Övik Energi, partners include Alfa Laval, Carbon Clean, Haldor Topsoe, Siemens Energy, Uniper, and Worley.
Additional Information Construction of FlagshipONE is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2022 and production is scheduled to begin in 2024. 15 Augusti 2024: Orsted has ceased the development of its pioneering FlagshipONE eMethanol project under construction in northern Sweden, citing slow market progress and an inability to sign long-term offtake contracts.
